. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS


. What are your police officer's qualifications and what is their jurisdiction?

Temple University's campus police are Pennsylvania-certified law enforcement officers. They are police professionals who receive state-mandated police recruitment training at an accredited police academy. In addition to that, throughout the year campus police receive various training to promote our mission of safety and security. Also, each officer receives sensitivity training in dealing with a diverse campus community.The primary jurisdiction is 500 yards beyond the campus property.

. How many staff members are in the police department?

Currently, the campus police division has 118 police officers. In our security division there are 70 security officers.

. Does Temple have an emergency system?

In case of any emergency: if the call is made from a campus phone dial 1-1234 immediately. In any other circumstance, for example the usage of a cellular phone or a landline, dial 215-204-1234. This will connect you directly to the communications center. Temple University also has Blue light Emergency phones. There are 90 phones spread out throughout Main, HSC, Tyler and Ambler Campuses. In case of an emergency press the red button, this will activate the system causing bright blue strobe flashes and a call will go directly to the campus police. The campus police computer aided dispatching system is integrated with the Philadelphia Police C.A.O. If you call 911 for a police emergency, the Temple Police dispatcher will also see your call.

. What do I do if I locked my keys in my car or my car won't start?

Call 215-204-1234 and you will be connected to the Communications Center. Remain calm while giving your location, the color and model of the vehicle. An officer will be dispatched to help immediately.

. Where can I find information regarding registered sex offenders in the campus community?

You can call the Investigation Unit at 215-204-6499. A detective will have a complete and updated list available.

. How do I get crime prevention or other brochures that are published by the department?

You can find a wide variety of brochures and pamphlets regarding crime prevention in the Center Station located on Main Campus at Berks Mall and Beasley Walk. You will also be able to find information about alcohol, drugs, harassment, sexual assault and theft. We also offer crime prevention information at all our department-sponsored programs. Come and visit us at our "Coffee with the Cops", team runs, and many other events

. How do I get fingerprinting for employment, Bar Exams, etc.?

As a courtesy to the students, fingerprinting can be performed by the department for valid usage such as jobs, internships, etc. It is available on Tuesdays and Fridays from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at headquarters located at 12th and Montgomery.
